#1:  What is FCCLA?

          FCCLA is a leadership organization that focuses on the family and community.   Its purpose is to provide opportunities to be successful adults by going out into the public and using community involvement to prepare for good career choices in the future.  FCCLA focuses on building strong families, being involved with people throughout the community, learning about different careers, building leadership skills, and building stronger communities with community service projects.  If you want more information on FCCLA and what it is all about, talk to one of the officers or ask any of the local members.

Talk to a local officer or Mrs. Dunbar if you are interested in developing your leadership skills!

**It is very important that you start early if you think you may ever want an opportunity to become a state or national officer.  There is a path you need to follow to prepare yourself for running for these positions that begins when you are a freshman.  

 

#4:  What opportunities are there for me in FCCLA?

FCCLA provides opportunities at local, district, state and national levels for student involvement.  Students plan and carry out projects based on the critical skill areas addressed by family and consumer sciences classes.

As a member of FCCLA, you have the opportunity to learn valuable lifetime skills, such as:

 

 

#5:  What are some of the Brookings FCCLA Chapter Community Service projects?

Senior Citizen Activities - Including: computer lessons, adopt a resident, senior citizen prom and style show, entertainment nights at assisted living centers, etc.

Character Counts – Teaching children about good character through monthly lessons in an adopted elementary classroom.

Teen Tutoring – Working with children who need extra help with math and reading skills or homework help in the elementary schools and middle school.

F.A.C.T.S. – Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety – Traffic Safety Checks, Drunk Driving Docudrama,  Ghost Out Day.

Families First/Family TeamWorking with families, children, the elderly and other groups to better the community in activities such as Healthy Baby Month, Daktronics Kids' Christmas Party, safety fairs, etc.

Career Team/ Career Connections - Explore careers, identify careers in our community, work with children to explore career choices.  Ex.  Traveling Career Wax Museum, speakers at the high school, career of the week displays, etc.

STOP the Violence – Promoting acceptance and tolerance to help prevent violence in our society.  Ex. Scary Guy speaker, R5 Productions presentations, displays, public service announcements, etc.

Disability Awareness – Barrier awareness activities with all third graders in our district.  Activities held in all elementary schools during the month of March.
