This site is appropriate for Family and Consumer Sciences and any career related areas.  It applies to grades 6-12 which are the grade levels of students who can be members of FCCLA.

Primary Use (Classroom teaching resource, student resource, professional development, etc.):

This site is best used as a teaching resource.  It can be used for self-teaching by students as well.  I use it in the classroom, as a teacher resource, and to give to students for a good resource.

A brief description of the educational value of the site:

This site is used by FCCLA advisers to learn about the latest programs available through FCCLA.  It provides information on all areas of FCCLA and also allows you to download applications and forms that your chapter needs during the year.  It includes tools to help you incorporate FCCLA into your classroom curriculum.  National FCS standards met by FCCLA programs are included on this site.

Brief comments concerning specific strengths and/or weaknesses in relation to the Web Portal criteria:

Strengths:

The information is complete, updated regularly, and very helpful.  It would be difficult to keep up with FCCLA news without the website.  It is very easy to navigate and you can move from one area to another without going back to the beginning all the time.  The online store has a security/privacy code.  There is a site for state advisers where only they can get in and they need a password to access the information.  There is online voting by chapters for certain awards.  The downloads are especially helpful.

            Weaknesses:

This site is not Bobby approved.  It does not allow you to directly e-mail the staff at headquarters.  It requires a certain program to download, and if you do not have that you can not download.

A brief description of the educational value of the site:

This site covers all areas of family and consumer sciences.  I can use it in any area I teach.  I can also have students refer to this site for a reference tool.  Professionally, I can e-mail other teachers and get more information about their courses and publications they use.  I can also find out about professional meetings, teacher certification, and where the job openings are in the nation.  Lately a lot of  the information is relating to recruitment of new teachers as we are facing a shortage.
